We are a day and boarding school for 2 to 18 years old, passionate about developing the whole person through academic, physical, cultural and social experiences. We are guided by the British curriculum from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) leading to IGCSEs although we go beyond it in many places. Post 16 we adopt the IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma Programme.

The first Bangkok campus opened near the Thailand Cultural Centre. Then in 2009, as the school grew and welcomed more families into its international community, the second and current Bangkok site was opened near the Japanese School to welcome Early Years and Primary classes. The same year, a Joint Venture Agreement was signed to establish The Regent’s School UK in Diss, Norfolk, not far from Cambridge.

Investment in top quality teachers – who must all possess Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and almost all of whom are British – has been the key to the school’s success. It has resulted in top university destinations including Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial College London in the UK and Stanford, Cornell, Wharton and UCLA in the United Sates. In 2014 the student roll registered at 1,100 at Pattaya Campus and 600 at Bangkok of which 10% are boarders mainly international students.

Today the school attracts the children of international royalty and ministers among the 50 boarders here at Bangkok Campus and it hopes to continue to go from strength to strength and maintain its reputation of a top academic international institution in the Thai capital.

Academic results are excellent; we score some of the best IB results in Thailand and South East Asia. Our students go to some of the best universities in the world and we have a fantastic extra-curricular provision. The Regent’s International School Pre-IB programme


The Regent’s International School Pre-IB programme offers new students the opportunity to prepare for the IB Diploma.  This programme is specifically designed for a student that is shown to have the ability and potential to be successful in the IB Diploma.  However, they may lack the language and literacy skills in English to fully access the IB course, or may not have completed the first year of the IGCSE programme.

The Pre-IB Programme is a personalised intensive course that follows the second year of IGCSE.  It is specifically adapted to the interests and needs of the individual student.

Typically, the programme has an emphasis on furthering a student’s literacy skills in English.  It aims to ensure that by the end of the year students are at intermediate level in English and have become more able and confident in reading, writing, speaking and listening in English.

The programme also emphasises skills in

  • ICT and digital literacy
  • Numeracy

as well as approaches to learning that are aligned to the IB Diploma

  • Collaboration and interdependence
  • Critical thinking
  • Creativity and resourcefulness
  • Reflection
  • Resilience

Students must select subjects from the six subject areas of the IB Diploma; choosing across the subject range means that students will be well prepared for the IB Diploma course.

All Pre-IB students must study

  • English: First or Second Language
  • Mathematics
  • At least one Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics

Other subjects offered include:

  • Humanities: Geography, History, Business, Global Perspectives
  • Languages: Thai, Chinese, Mandarin
  • Arts: Drama, Music, Art and Design

In addition, through the year, students are provided extra time for independent study as well as extra lessons in English.

At the beginning of Term 2, Year 11, students can decide on whether they are to be entered for the IGCSE exams in May/June.  This decision will be based on discussions with subject teachers, parents and the Key Stage 4 Coordinator.

Generally, a student is expected to pass 5 IGCSEs at grade A*-C including English and Maths. However, the school will also consider other indicators such as feedback from subject teachers, progress in English and information from cognitive ability tests (CATS4).

Through the Pre-IB programme, we also encourage students to develop skills that will enable them to become responsible and confident young adults. We provide a number of opportunities both through the formal curriculum and beyond the curriculum.  Participation in House and inter-school competitions are encouraged, as are enrichment, service and extra-curricular activities such as the International Award, MUN, Outward Bounds trip and sports, music, art and drama activities.

The strong emphasis on academic rigour as well as on wellbeing and citizenship will mean that students are well prepared for the IB Diploma and university.  This balanced approach is a core element of our mission in supporting students to become well rounded leaders for the future.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a rigorous academic program emphasizing academic achievement, critical thinking, research skills and community service. It has been operating worldwide for almost 30 years and is in place in almost 1500 schools in around 120 countries around the world.  The IB Diploma is recognized in virtually every country in the world.

The Diploma Programme encourages students to:

  • ask challenging questions
  • learn how to learn
  • develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture
  • develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures.

Because of this, the IB is highly valued by many universities across the world.  In many UK and North American universities it is felt to be the best programme in preparing students for Tertiary Education.

At Regent’s International School our students consistently exceed world average point scores and go on to study at a range of universities including Oxbridge, LSE, Imperial, Manchester in the UK, Cornell, Pennsylvania, New York and Berkeley in USA, UBC and Toronto in Canada and City University in Hong Kong and many more.

The curriculum

The IB Diploma requires students to study six subject areas, with one discipline taken from each group in the curriculum model:

  1. Language A (literature and/or language): English, Thai
  2. Language B (second language) or another Language A: English, Thai, Mandarin, Spanish, French
  3. Individuals and Societies:  Business Management, Economics, Geography, History
  4. Experimental Sciences:  Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Sports Education Health Science, ESS (Environmental systems and societies)
  5. Mathematics
  6. Arts:  Theatre Arts, Art, Music (or one subject from groups 1-4)

All IB Diploma students must choose three courses at Higher Level (HL) and three courses at Standard Level (SL).

In addition to these academic disciplines, the IBDP is founded on three core components for which the students are required to:

  • Complete a 4000 word Research Essay
  • Undertake a two year course of study in the Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
  • Commit to a range of Creative, Action, and Service (CAS) oriented endeavours

Recommended Entry requirements for IB Diploma

Due to the course content the following recommendations are made regarding entrance into some subjects at different levels:

  • A* at IGCSE is recommended for HL mathematics
  • B or higher is generally recommended at IGCSE to take subjects at HL.
  • C or higher at IGCSE is recommended to take other subjects at SL

IB Subjects are graded on a scale of 1 (minimum) to 7 (maximum). The students may gain up to another 3 points through the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay. The maximum number of points awarded for the IB Diploma is 45.  Generally, a student must gain 24 points with 12 points at HL and and fulfill some other requirements

Besides supervised prep in the evenings pupils can do a range of activities from swimming, baking, gym, zumba or join in a house theme night of fun.

Regent’s boarding facilities is housed on a separate campus to the school and therefore provides a spacious and beautiful environment with 1st class boarding accommodation, swimming pool, football pitch, large dining hall and common rooms.

Boarding accommodation can be shared or single with a maximum of 3 in a room. Each house is equipped with wireless connection facilities.

We provide 24 hours on site security with finger scan security to access the boarding houses.


1.In a unique residential campus environment in which our boys and girls live, students are immersed in the camaraderie of common experience, friendship, trust and honesty.

2.The responsibility of appropriate independence under the mentoring of teaching staff and house staff.

1.Full Boarding: Full Boarding consists of seven nights a week during term time. There is no allocated leave out at weekends. However, if you would like to spend a weekend at home or with friends or relatives you may do this on any weekend providing you have permission.
The cost of Full boarding THB 102,500 per term for Secondary and THB 88,000 for Primary (Year 4 – 6)

2.Flexi Boarding​: Flexi Boarding consists of 3 nights per week.  Pupils will be allocated a permanent bed space. Flexi Boarding helps boys and girls to become more mature, self-reliant and confident and forges firmer friendships; friendships formed in boarding schools are bonds for life.  Parents may choose weekly-boarding because their children normally have a long journey into school and they would like to lessen the travelling during the week, or because they would like to see if they like boarding, or just because that’s how many nights away from home they feel comfortable with.
The cost of 3 night’s Flexi Boarding is 4,800 baht per week and will be charged in advance at the beginning of each term.

3.Occasional Boarding: Occasional Boarding offers pupils the opportunity to get a ‘taste’ of boarding without having to make a permanent commitment. It useful for sleepovers with friends, or when parents are absent from home for short periods.Occasional Boarding is subject to availability and where there is bed space.
The cost of an occasional Boarding nights is 1,600 baht per night and this will be charged in arrears at the end of each term.

The Boarding House is closed over the Songkarn and Summer holidays  however we understand that for some families it can be difficult to travel home during the shorter breaks. We offer both Residential Service and Adventure trips for our boarders. Adventure trips vary in cost according to the distance and the length of the outing.
